Status Update

Wed Jul 19, 2006, 1:28 PM
Every so often I come back to deviantART to check out new wallpapers, visual styles, etc., or to see if I have any messages in my message center.  Recently I read a note that was sent to me by `mattdanna saying that he "caught" me on deviantART (as he noticed that, at the time, I had visited less than 24 hours ago according to my user page).  In the note, `mattdanna suggested that I write a journal entry and update the community on what I have been up to.  I thought about his suggestion figured what the heck, I'll take him up on it.

ME
As you might be aware, I have been away from the deviantART community for over two years now at the time of this writing.  I just graduated from college this past June and currently I am in graduate school, studying for my M.Ed. in early childhood education.  The program I'm in is a year-long program and it's packed with a ton of studying and homework.  It will all be worth it in the end though because come May, 2007 I will have not only have my master's degree, but a teaching license as well.

EMOTICONS
I'd like to add a little something about my emoticons.  Many of you probably know that while I was creating emoticons I was pretty big into the anti-ripping scene.  Without going into great detail, I basically held the stance that emoticons are art just like other medium here in the community, and I didn't really want websites other than deviantART using my emoticons without my permission.  If you're curious as to why, you can read about that here.

Every so often I still receive notes from people asking permission to use my emoticons.  I have not responded to those notes for two reasons.  The first reason is that I had a website button at the top of my user page for a while that, if clicked, contained the answer to those requests.  If people couldn't take the time to click that and read what it linked them to, then that's not my fault.

The second reason I think can pretty much be summed up by a statement that °dygel put in one of his journal entries (slightly edited by me):

"The desire I once had to be noticed in any emoticoning capacity has greatly diminished."
</i>

I hope nobody takes that statement the wrong way, but it can also relate to my status in the deviantART community.  I left the emoticoning scene a while ago and when I did that, I meant it.  I certainly had a fun time as an active member here, but I had done everything that I wanted to do.  I made countless emoticons (many of which became official to deviantART...a joy in its own right), expanded my artistic horizons, became an active/giving part in/to the community, attained senior status, and as bonuses, got the Deviousness Award and even held the position of Icons Gallery Director for a period of time.  As I mentioned in my Goodbye Journal Entry though, I had just exhausted myself and needed to step away.

So going back to the emoticons and other websites using them.  After much consideration I have decided on the following:

I am opening up my emoticon gallery to anyone who wishes to use its contents for their website, message board, etc.  You do NOT have to ask me for permission to use them.  Enjoy.

By holding on to my emoticons for so long and keeping them private to me and to deviantART, I feel like I have been keeping myself somewhat active here.  I mean no disrespect to this community as a whole or its individuals whatsoever, but as I already mentioned by referencing °dygel, my desire to be noticed has significantly decreased.  My views on emoticon ripping still stand, however.  I do not look at the act of opening up my emoticons to any website as a "defeat" or "surrender" by any means, but rather as a "goodbye gift" of sorts.  A lot of people have asked me to use them and they all have gotten the same answer.  Now that has changed, so enjoy.  All I ask is that they are not used for any sort of financial profit, or used in any recreations.  By the latter I basically mean do not use or edit my emoticons to make "new" ones.

IN CLOSING
Thank you to all who have left me messages since I left the community.  I really appreciate the comments, and I apologize for not responding.  I hope you will consider this journal entry as somewhat of a response to all of you.  Take care everyone, and goodbye (again), deviantART.

For any SysStats users out there, I have released a weather widget called Lucid Weather 1.0. It can be found here and here for those who are interested.

Devious Thoughts

I have been a deviantART member for a little over two years now.  Within those two years, I have enjoyed this community and everything it has offered.  Recently, however, I have come to the realization that my heart just isn't in it anymore.  It has nothing to do with anybody or anything at this website, it's just a personal matter.  My will to create emoticons has faded significantly.

As some of you may know, I recently lost everything on my hard drive (but only for a week.  A friend was able to recover everything for me).  When I lost everything, that included all of my deviantART files and folders:  emoticon work, emoticon templates, emoticons in progress, journal section templates, etc.

The thought of not having those specific files and folders for a week made me think that I would go nuts without them (in the deviantART-sense of course).  However, it was quite the opposite.  It really didn't bother me by not having them.  In fact, I barely visited deviantART that entire week as well.  As much as it upsets me to say this, I really didn't miss it.  I mean...I did...but not enough to make a significant impact (one that you'd think should for someone like a senior member/gallery director such as myself).

Because of this, I've realized that (as I said earlier) my heart just isn't in it anymore.  I've come to the obvious conclusion that it's not fair for the deviantART community to have someone on staff that is not dedicated to what they do.  Therefore, I have asked °dygel to allow me to step down as icons gallery director.  A suitable replacement will be made soon.  On top of this, I will be leaving the deviantART community as well.

-

I would like to close with a collective "thank you" to deviantART, the staff, and the community.  I have not only learned how to create emoticons here, but I have also learned so much about artwork in general.  I got to discover a part of me that I did not know existed.  I've also made many online friends here.  This website truly is amazing.  Thousands of artists, from literally all over the world, meeting in one place to share what they love.

Thank you all for all the wonderful comments and suggestions on my emoticons over these past two years.  Your support kept me going this long.  Unfortunately though, all things must come to an end.  For me, that time is now.

Goodbye deviantART.  Thank you.

Devious Thoughts

Real Life

For all you you who have replied offering tips and solutions to remedy the hard drive problem I was having all of last week, a tremendous collective "Thank You!"  After many failed attemps from friends of mine who had never seen such a situation, a friend of a friend had some software that did the trick.  It found everything on my hard drive, and (after 7 hours!) we were able to recover everything I needed, move it to my other hard drive, quickly reformat my damaged drive, and then move everything back to it again.  It was a very long and grueling process that went until 3:30 in the morning, but I now have all of my important files back.

Again, thank you to all of you who replied to my situation.  I really appreciated the outpour of comments with tips to help.  Although I did not really reply to a lot of them, I read every single one.  Thank you all.

deviantART

During the whole hard drive fiasco, I was pretty much away from deviantART and I apologize to the staff for not keeping up with my duties, and I also apologize to the frequent icon gallery-goers.  I will get back to work ASAP.

Real Life
(again)

The reason I say I'll get back to it ASAP is because today is the first day of spring quarter for me and I need to get situated and find my routine of things.  That shouldn't take long at all though.

In other news, today is my :twenty:th birthday.  I'll save my thoughts about the whole concept of birthdays for a later post since I must be getting to class now.

On temporary hiatus while I try and fix and/or rebuild my hard drive.

So after minorly screwing up my computer's registry and royally infesting it with loads of spyware (long story), I decided to fix everything by starting over and upgrading from Windows 2000 to Windows XP.  Before doing this, I moved all of my personal files (music, photos, videos, programs, etc.) over to my second harddrive (my D drive) so nothing would be lost when I did the upgrade.

Windows XP installed just fine (everything on C got erased of course), however it didn't recognize my D drive.  Well, it did...but I cannot access anything on it.  It says that I need to format the drive in order to access anything on it.

I took it out of my computer and put it in my parents' Windows 2000 computer (the computer I'm using to write this) and the same thing happened.  It said I needed to format the drive.  Well if I do that, I lose everything on it, don't I?

I have years and years of work on that drive and if I lose it I will go insane (to say the least).  Does anybody know what I can do to fix this problem?  I'm about to have a breakdown here.
Real Life

Finally I am home for spring break!  I go back to school on March 28th (classes resume the next day...on my birthday.  Yuck!), so that gives me about a good week and a half to just relax and do nothing.  Sweet sweet nothing!

Well, not nothing.  I have to do some media work for some friends and me, catch up on my gallery director duties (which I put off while I was studying for finals), and make a small batch of icons for deviantART galleries.  But I enjoy doing all of those things, so I don't consider it work at all.  I'd also like to re-read "The Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger.  I read it in high school and I remember I loved it.  Unfortunately, I don't remember much about the book itself, so hopefully I'll get around to picking it up again during break.

What's one of your pet peeves?  Personally, I can't stand it when someone is walking in front of you right in the middle of the hallway, sidewalk, etc. and you can't get around them.  Just thinking about it pisses me off!  :x

Damn...it's good to be home.  :-)
I just realized that today marks my second year at deviantART!  Wow, time sure does fly doesn't it?  It's really been a great two years.  Thanks to everyone who has made it just that.

Just wanted to make a quick journal entry here apologizing for my lack of keeping up with my gallery director duties as of late.  Today marks my first day of three finals, and I have been doing a LOT of studying for all three of them.  Once I get home for break (Thursday) I will get back to my duties in full force.  So to the deviantART staff and to those who have been browsing the icons gallery lately and seeing misplaced submissions, my apologies.
deviantART
This is just to let all of the people who have me on their devWatch know, I am in the process of editing/re-uploading a lot of my emoticons to my gallery.  More specifically, I am re-uploading all of the emoticons in my gallery that have broken images.

It's no secret that dA has a few buggy problems with old thumbnails (at least in the emoticons gallery).  Therefore, in order to have all of my emotes showing again, I am re-uploading (not deleting) a lot of my emoticons.  So if you see a bazillion deviations on your watch from me, now you know why.  ;-)

Sorry for any annoyance.
Every so often I receive notes and e-mails from people requesting to use my emoticons on their websites and/or forums.  I am always flattered and happy that people think highly enough of my emoticons to want to use them on their own sites, and I certainly appreciate it when people do the right thing and take the time to ask permission.  Despite this though, I always return with the same answer:  no.

That sounds pretty harsh, doesn't it?  Well, let me explain...

I put a lot of work into my emoticons.  I don't want to sound high and mighty here, but I probably put a lot more time and effort into my emotes than most people do who have their emoticons on free-for-use emoticon websites.  I'll go so far as to spend hours (off and on) on just one emoticon if I have to.  Pathetic?  Some might say it is.  But hey, this is the artwork that I do.  Some people specialize in photography, some people in wallpapers, some in pixel art.  Me...I do emoticons.

Didn't mean to drift from the main idea here.  Allow me to get back to it...

As I said, I put a lot of work into my emoticons.  When I began creating emotes, I made them with the thought in mind that maybe one day, some would make it to the deviantART emoticon legend.  Low and behold, they did.  Now...I know what the basic idea behind emoticons are.  They are fun little "smileys" that should be used by everyone.  I know that.  But I like to think of my emoticons as a little more than "smileys."  As I said before, they are my form of online art.  It's my medium.

Now for the point...

It makes me glad that the deviantART community enjoys the emoticons that I make for this website.  This is a community that I've been with for a long time and that I know very well.  I know the staff and I have made many online friends here.  Because of this, I have no problems giving to the community (in my case, in the form of emoticons).  When someone from another website asks me if they can use my emoticons, I don't say no because I want to be mean.  I say no because of this...

...I've seen my emoticons ripped on so many websites it makes my head spin.  Many times when I've spoken with the webmasters of these sites, the ripping is unintentional and they usually obtain my emotes from free-for-use emoticon websites that certainly do not have my permission to have them.  Those are the sites that are the rippers.  When more and more sites start using my emoticons...my artwork...then more and more people who see them probably just assume that they can take them.  At deviantART, policies about ripping are everywhere.  They're even on the emoticon legend itself!  Here, I know my artwork has protection and I know that I have a lot of people who can back me up if I ever need to claim that the work is indeed mine.

A while ago I had the doors open for my emoticons.  There is a small handful of websites out there that actually has permission to use my emoticons, and in return, they credit me with a link back to my userpage on deviantART.  Since my emoticons started to become ripped long ago, I have not taken back my emotes from these websites/webmasters who have permission.  Regardless, since then I've seen so much ripping of my emoticons from other websites that I have shut the doors back up...perhaps for good.  I don't care if people credit me anymore...if they're on a site that does not have my permission and I see it, expect an e-mail.

So that's that.  I hope that I've made my opinion on the matter of emoticon useage clear without sounding like a total jerk at the same time.  To any webmasters who I've linked this journal entry to, I do hope you understand and hold no ill feelings towards me because of this.

-

This journal was written solely for my convenience.  When I receive notes and e-mails now asking for permission for my emoticons, I can simply direct them to this journal entry.  I am not expecting any comments on this.  If you did take the time to read this, I thank you.

Once again I'm playing with different journal layouts.  Despite `sycho's clear and simple directions, I still could not get a handle on CSS.  As I'm sure you saw from my past journal entry, I was having some trouble with the tables and it just looked bad.  I also tried some more journal entries that stayed up for no more than 10 seconds, and still I had troubles.  So much thanks to `sycho for his willingness to help a fool in need, but for now I'm gonna stick with the simple graphic headers I made.  I may dip into CSS again at a later time though.

What's your favorite Nick at Nite/TV Land television show (for those of you who get those channels)?  For me, I'd have to say All in the Family.  There will never ever be another television character like Archie Bunker and to make such a racist bigot that loveable takes pure genius, both on the writers' parts as well as Carroll O'Conner's himself.  Plus, the chemistry and non-stop, loud dialogue (mixed with timing) between characters is just hilarious.

For those of you who do not get those channels, then what is your favorite TV show that is in syndication?

What's the best book you were ever forced to read?  For me, it would have to be either "Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger, or "The Things They Carried"</i> by Tim O'Brien.  The first is a classic book that every person should read in their later teenage years.  The latter is a fantastic book about the Vietnam War, told through the eyes of an American soldier.

I hate it when I hear a great song and all I can think about is a commercial that it's been used in.  While I cannot think of one off the top of my head right now, there are so many fantastic classic rock songs that have been bastardized by corporations and used in their commercials so much to the point where the song and the commercial have become synonymous.  Ugh, I hate it so much.  :x

A little over a week ago, news broke out that the Icons > eIcons gallery was to be removed on February 22, 2004 due to the immense amount of improperly submitted deviations there.

Since then, there has been a slight change of plans.  The eIcons gallery has indeed been removed, however all icons that were left in that gallery have now been moved into the Icons > Miscellaneous gallery.  This way, icons that were previously in the eIcons gallery have not been lost.

When do you usually decide to write your devious journal entries?  Why?

I usually wait until night time...generally a little while before I go to bed.  Night is when all my thoughts for the day are running wild in my head.  The calmness of the night allows me to convey them easier to my journals.  Plus, it's always nice to wake up to responses.  ;-)

What's your one favorite song to relax to?  The one song where, after a rough day, you can just kick back and turn it on and it puts you in the most relaxing mood that a song possibly can.  Why?

I don't know if I can pinpoint just one song overall, but lately for me it's been America by Simon & Garfunkel.  There's just something about it.  It has such a great feel to it and some of the lyrics are just so random and chill, but at the same time make so much sense.  I recommend you give it a listen.
Due to the immense amount of improperly submitted deviations to the eIcons gallery, it is going to be removed entirely on February 22, 2004.

As of today, nobody will be able to submit anything to the eIcons gallery.  In other words, it's now a locked gallery.  Anything left in the eIcons gallery after February 22 will be deleted, so if you currently have anything submitted there, please move it into the proper gallery before that date.  If you have submitted actual eIcons to the eIcons gallery, the place to move them to would be the Icons > Miscellaneous gallery.  Thank you.

Quick ? Update:  This question is directed to all ImageReady users.  Does anyone happen to know the proper setting to have a graphic such that if it fades away (like around the edges), it can be set to fade to whatever color the background of the webpage it's put on is?  So if the background color of a page is red, the graphic will fade to red.  If it's blue, it will fade to blue.

I hate Valentine's Day.  No, not because I don't have anyone, because even if I did I still wouldn't like it.  It's just such a BS holiday.  Why are you expected to express your love on this day in particular?  If you love someone, express it all the time.  </mini rant>

Anyway, my plans for this V-day are gonna be sweet (even if it's sans a lady-friend).  My band and I are going to be playing at a (V-day?) house party on Saturday night.  We've been practicing all week and, after 4 months of doing nothing, sound pretty good if I may say so myself.  It should be a lot of fun.  Who knows...maybe there'll be some nice femininas there who dig drummers.  :-o

I'm trying to get back into the groove of making emoticons on a semi-regular basis again.  If you know anything based on my previous journal entries, I've been getting my ass kicked by school lately.  However, things have begun to calm down for the time being, so I'd like to start up my emoticon making again.  I've looked at the suggestions from my previous journal entry and there are still some good ones in there that I just haven't gotten a chance to make yet.  But if anyone has any more suggestions, drop 'em in this journal as always.
<style> .hea { padding: 4px; border: solid 1px #545F54; font-size: 14px; font-family: arial; font-weight: bold; color: #C4CAC4; background: #899589; } .bulle { font-size: 13px; font-family: tahoma; } .li1 { padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 1em; } .size { padding: 3px; background: #A1ABA1; border-left: solid 1px #545F54; } </style>
:ninjafella:  Firing up the ol' Photoshop!  :ninjafella:

I've realized it's been too long since I've submitted anything to deviantART.  Now that all my midterms are out of the way, I'll have a little more time for emoticon creating.  I'm still quite busy with other dA-related things, but I've gotta start making emotes again.  So if you have any suggestions, drop them in this journal entry.  Thanks!

By the way.  This past Friday I was in the Shoutbox and some people threw some very good ideas around, but for some reason I didn't jot them down.  If by chance you know what I'm referring to, kindly remind me please.  :-)

<style> .hea { padding: 4px; border: solid 1px #545F54; font-size: 14px; font-family: arial; font-weight: bold; color: #C4CAC4; background: #899589; } .bulle { font-size: 13px; font-family: tahoma; } .li1 { padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 1em; } .size { padding: 3px; background: #A1ABA1; border-left: solid 1px #545F54; } </style>
:resume:  Cleaning Up  :resume:

I've begun to go through the icons gallery and weed out the deviations that don't belong.  If you're a deviant that has been affected by this, I'm sorry.  There was a news article posted on the front page all of last week about this and it's still there on the icons gallery main page.  So I'm sorry, but then again I'm not.  If you didn't read it, it's not my fault.

<style> .hea { padding: 4px; border: solid 1px #545F54; font-size: 14px; font-family: arial; font-weight: bold; color: #C4CAC4; background: #899589; } .bulle { font-size: 13px; font-family: tahoma; } .li1 { padding-bottom: 4px; padding-left: 1em; } .size { padding: 3px; background: #A1ABA1; border-left: solid 1px #545F54; } </style>
:gallery:  Deviant Feature: olddragon  :gallery:

Every so often I'm going to feature a deviant in my journal who's gallery has just really captured me.  For my first feature, I'd like to shine the spotlight on ~olddragon.  The color in Mark's photography really grabs me, but the angles of which he decides to shoot a lot of his pieces are really alluring as well.  Take a look for yourself.

:bulletgreen:  02.05.2004

Yes, I'm still here.  Just writing this to update anyone who cares as to what is going on with me right now.

I have two midterms tomorrow which I have really been driving myself crazy over.  My math one I am not so worried about, but my world history exam is another story.  We got the review sheet this past Friday and ever since then I've been studying my ass off.  Well, actually I haven't.  I'd like to say I have been, but I haven't.

Lately I have been emotionally and mentally drained.  With school, with life, with everything.  As I sit here typing this, I should really been studying more for my exams tomorrow, but I just can't get myself to do it.  It's not that I don't want to do it (well...nobody wants to study).  It's more of an "I can't seem to get myself to focus" kind of thing.  I've tried studying out of my room in the study lounge in my middle hallway, I've trued studying in other buildings, I've even gone so far to unplug my computer from the internet so I could get down to business and type up a review guide.  Even after doing all this, I still get distracted.  By any little thing.  And the more I get distracted, the more I get frustrated with myself.  The more that happens, the more I just want to give up.

I'm seriously considering getting myself tested for adult ADD (attention deficit disorder).  There's a building on campus that will do it and if I feel like shelling out $75, then I can take some tests and then they can diagnose me.  Now, I know...every student thinks they have ADD.  For a while I just thought I was like every other student.  But lately (within the past months) I have just had a serious lack of motivation to get the really important things (school related things) done, and I can seriously feel it getting worse.  I'll open a book and within five minutes I will start to daydream or tap my pencil or something.  Even right now, I was studying for my midterm tomorrow and I wasn't even ten minutes into it and here I am typing all this out.  When I do actually focus and read, I usually don't remember what it is that I read even after I turn the page.  I look at all the words, but I don't read them.

Friday after my midterms I am going home for the weekend.  I need some time out of Columbus, away from school, away from everything.  I need time to talk with my parents and figure out what's going on with me and my life, because I don't even know anymore.  I've gone so far as to think about dropping out of school for one quarter just to get my mind back on track.  I really don't want it to have to come to that, but I just can't take this daily stress anymore.  It's seriously not worth it.  College is supposed to be the best time of your life.  This past year and a half have probably been the worst for me.  So maybe a quarter away from school will help.  I don't know.  I'm afraid to bring it up to my folks because they'd probably be heavily against the idea (no matter how much they'd want to help me...and trust me, they're great parents...they would).  If it came down to it, then they would definately support me in my decision.  But if it did come down to that, I'd feel that I'd be letting them down.  More importantly, I'd feel like I'd be letting myself down as well.

So that's where I am right now.  That's why you haven't seen much activity from me lately (other than the icons submission guide article).  Once I get everything figured out with myself, I'll be back in full force.  Maybe this is just a midterms thing.  Then again, maybe it's not.

:pencil:  What's on my Plate  :pencil:

This is more or less for my benefit (getting everything I have to do listed out) but once it's all complete I will be able to shift more of my attention to deviantART related tasks.  Below is a list of things that are currently occupying the majority of my time/things I need to do.

:bulletgreen:  Make payment & sign lease for next year's house

:pointr:  Side Project  :pointl:

Copied/pasted from last journal entry

Currently I am working on a little side project with the inspiration and help of °dygel. While I won't say what it is, I will say this: if it goes through, it's gonna be pretty spiffy. This means that while I am doing this project, I'm probably going to have to put my deviantART emoticon creating on a temporary halt. Between this project, all of the items listed above, and...oh yeah, my social life, I'm just not going to have as much time for it right now.  However, if you still have any emoticon suggestions, drop 'em in the journal and I'll try and get to them eventually.
After browsing through all of the icon sub-galleries, I think there may be a bit of confusion as to where some icons should be submitted.  You may have noticed that the icons gallery has gone through some slight changes.  Hopefully this submission guide will help answer any questions you may have about what's going on in the icons tier of deviantART.

Below is a list of all of the sub-galleries in the icons tier of deviantART, along with brief descriptions for each.  These are the guidelines to use when submitting icons.

(For all icon galleries, compression of icon sets for downloading is always acceptable.)

:bulletgreen:  Avatars  :bulletgreen:

This category was formerly known as Deviants.  Here you can submit any avatar for personal useage.  This is also the place to submit deviantART user avatars, which are the "buddy icons" associated with  deviantART accounts.  There isn't really much reason to submit your own deviantART avatar to this category since you can upload it directly from your harddrive under your user settings.  However, if you are making a Deviant avatar for another user, then this is the place to submit it.  As far as dimensions for Avatars go, they shouldn't be anything out of the ordinary.  The normal dimensions for avatars are usually 48x48, 50x50, 96x96, and 100x100.

NOTE:  Hotlinking (directly sourcing an image stored at deviantART in an image tag off-site) is not permissible, and avatars uploaded for this purpose will be removed.  For information regarding deviantART's avatar policies, click here.

:bulletgreen:  Buddy Icons  :bulletgreen:

This category was formerly known as AIM Buddy Icons.  Icons submitted here are designed specifically for individual useage with chatting programs like AOL Instant Messenger, MSN, etc.  Buddy Icons should be in .bmp, .jpg, .jpeg, or. gif format.  Different instant messaging services allow different dimensions for their buddy icons, but the most common are 48x48 and 96x96.

NOTE:  It is okay for others to use buddy icons, however they are usually a personal thing.

:bulletgreen:  eIcons  :bulletgreen:

E-Icons is a program that allows you to customize various system icons on your computer.  All E-Icons themes submitted here should be compressed, including an .icl file and an .eit file.  To learn more about E-Icons, visit its website.

:bulletgreen:  emoticons  :bulletgreen:

Emoticons (smilies) are icons such as :-), ;-), :-o and so on.  Emoticons generally have the .gif extension.  There are not too many guidelines for submitting emoticons, but anything submitted here should not be too large in dimension.  The only exception to that rule is if you are submitting a screenshot for a pack of emoticons that you are making available for download.

NOTE:   deviantART is given permission to use anything submitted into the emoticons gallery as an icon in its useable collection (providing credit to the artist) unless the artist specifically denies that automatic assumption in the description of their submitted emoticon(s).

:bulletgreen:  IconPackager  :bulletgreen:

"IconPackager is the world's most popular way to change all the icons on your Windows PC all once." - Stardock Corporation

IconPackager files are those with the .ip and .iptheme extentions.  However, .ico's, .png's, and .icl's may also be submitted to this category.

:bulletgreen:  mp3ext  :bulletgreen:

Icons submitted here are for the MP3ext application.  Dimensions of these can be 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 64x64, 72x72, 96x96, and 128x128 and can be submitted in .ico format.  Themes can also be submitted with .icl or .mp3theme extentions.

To see the features of this program, click here.

:bulletgreen:  ObjectDock  :bulletgreen:

"ObjectDock is a program that allows you to have a nice animated launchbar/taskbar on your screen that reacts to your mouse when you mouse over it." - Stardock Corporation

All icons submitted to the ObjectDock gallery should be in .ico and/or .png format.  No ObjectDock backgrounds or themes should be submitted here.  Just icons.

:bulletgreen:  OS Icons  :bulletgreen:

These are icons that can be downloaded and used on your operating system.  Included sub-categories for OS Icons are *Nix, Mac OS, and Windows.

:pointr:  *Nix:    These icons are for Linux/Unix based systems.  Icons for these systems are usually either in .png, .tif(f) or .xpm format, with  dimensions of 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 64x64, 72x72, 96x96, and 128x128.

:pointr:  Mac OS:    When submitting icons to this category, they should be in .icns or .png format (.sit or .dmg for libraries).  All Mac icons should be one or more of the following in terms of dimensions:  16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 64x64, 72x72, 96x96, and 128x128.

:pointr:  Windows:    Windows uses icons with the .ico (and .icl for libraries) extentions, except for Windows XP which can use .png's as well.  All Windows .ico icons should be one or more of the following in terms of dimensions:  16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 64x64, 72x72, 96x96, and 128x128.

:bulletgreen:  Miscellaneous  :bulletgreen:

The Miscellaneous gallery is for any icon that does not fit the description of any of the categories above.  Please limit the size of these icons.  If after reading this you are still not sure where to submit your icons, submit them to this category.

:bulletred:  NOTICE  :bulletred:

All deviants will be given until Saturday, February 7th, 2004 to move any icon(s) of theirs that they believe is/are in the wrong gallery.  After 2/07/04, any icon(s) found in improper galleries will be moved or deleted and deviants will receive section violations, so don't say you haven't been warned.  I highly recommend that all deviants who have submitted anything to any icon sub-gallery double check and make sure that they are in the proper ones.  This is being done simply so the icons gallery can be cleaned up.

If you are an iconist and believe that I left something important out of a description (or improperly described a section), please note me with the proper info.

I hope that this has been useful and informational for both iconists and non-iconists alike.  Of course if you ever have any questions, feel free to contact me.  :-)

Hello fellow iconists.  I'm the new gallery director for the icons gallery here at deviantART and I'm just taking this opportunity to introduce myself to all of you, and to fill you in on what I will be doing around here.

My main objective is simply to keep things clean in the icons gallery.  This includes making sure that icons are submitted into the proper sub-galleries, monitoring the icons forum, and other miscellaneous doo-dads and what-nots.

Of course if you ever have any questions concerning icons, feel free to drop me a note or an e-mail.  I'm excited to be a part of the deviantART team and I look forward to being your icon gallery director.  :-)
